Beim ersten Fronteinsatz im Juni 1916 zeigte sich dieser Sopwith Dreidecker den deutschen Jagdflugzeugen absolut überlegen und glänzte durch überlegene Flugeigenschaften und Leistungen. Mit dem 130 PS Motor erreichte der Triplane eine maximale Geschwindigkeit von fast 190 km/h. Die Fokker Manfred von Richthofens war ein Kopie dieses Flugzeuges von dem er sehr beeindruckt war.

The Sopwith Triplane was a British single seat fighter aircraft during the First World War. The Triplane became operational with the Royal Naval Air Service in early 1917 and was immediately successful. The Triplane was nevertheless built in comparatively small numbers and was withdrawn from active service as Sopwith Camels arrived in the latter half of 1917.
