Die Geschichte dieses Regimentes beginnt im Jahr 1688 durch Friedrich III., Kurfuersten von Brandenburg als Abwehr gegen den Einmarsch der Truppen Ludwig XIV. Von 1701-1713 waren sie im Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg im Einsatz.Unter Friedrich dem Grossen nahmen sie an den Schlesischen Kriegen teil. Spaeter folgten die Napoleonischen Kriege. Zu dieser Zeit fuehrte das Regiment den Zusatz "Prinz Wilhelm". Erst 1939 wurde das Regiment aufgeloest. Das Grossmotiv zeigt einen Offizier dieses Dragonerregimentes zur Zeit Napoleons. Als Dragoner bezeichnete man ursprünglich berittene Infanterie, die ihre Pferde primär zum Transport, nicht aber für den Kampf verwendeten. Im Lauf der Zeit entwickelten sie sich fast überall zur Schlachtenkavallerie. |
